Registering a new Scout in Troop 1978
Whether you are bridging from Cub Scouts, or you are a boy or girl 11-17 years old, we’d love to show you how our scout-led troop works, and especially how we develop leaders through hands-on skill training and high adventure.
Our scouting year begins the first Tuesday of the school year and runs through the end of the following summer. Youth ages 11-17 can start anytime during the school year.

We do not have meetings when Fairfax County Public Schools are closed
A few notes:
Dues (as of Sept 2023) are $185 for new scouts. Payable by check during a troop meeting. Additional dues (as of Sept 2023) $108.15 go directly to BSA with registration above.
This fee includes all troop meetings and regular monthly campouts
Summer camps, high adventure camps, and some special outings have an additional cost
Uniform includes BSA pants, shirt, belt, and socks. You can purchase one or look through our used uniforms
Each scout purchases BSA pants, shirt, belt, socks, and National Capital Area Council shoulder patch online, at the Northern Virginia Scout Shop in Annandale/Springfield, or get a used one during our uniform swap
We'll supply you with a scout book, neckerchief, slide, shoulder loops, and troop numbers shoulder patch.
Siblings must each register separately.
